First Entry

Wow I can't believe that 2007 is already here. I have lots of financials goals I would like to achieve by the end of the year so they say that the best way to accomplish those goals is to put them in writing.

My financial situation is good but I want to make it even better. I currently have somewhere in the vicinity of $3,500 give or take in cc debt. Now $3200 of that is on a 0% interest card until November.

My number 1 goal is to pay that off before the 0% interest expires. I plan on using ALL of my tax return to put towards that card. I got $1900 last year so if I can get somewhere around that back from Uncle Sam, then that would eliminate about half of the debt.

I recently purchased a new car late last year. I did alot of research and played with numbers. My car payment is only $380 which is something I can afford. I plan on keeping my car for 10 years.

Every month I put $333.33 in my Roth IRA so that I can max it out. I started my Roth in July 2005 with only $100 a month going into it but I upped those contributions over time. That was one thing that was important to me to do. I know so many people who aren't saving for retirement.

I also save an additional $150 or so in a savings account. I call it my "Denver Dash". I currently reside in Orange County, CA and this is not the place I want to live in time to come. I don't know if I can but I would like to move to Colorado maybe at the end of this year or definitely sometime in 2008. I want to up my contributions on this fund.

Another thing I need to do is get an emergency fund going even if it's $20 a week. Something is better than nothing.

I make enough to pay all my bills, save some of course, and do things that I want to do but I think I can save more money if I take an even closer look at my finances. So my goal for the next month is to write down EVERY penny I spend and see what I'm wasting money on and what I can do to eliminate or at least reduce that.

Sounds like you have a plan.

Of course, we're going to hold you to applying all of your anticipated tax refund to your CC debt. But after that, you might consider adjusting your withholding so you don't get such a large refund. It's like a free loan to the IRS when you could be earning interest on the same money invested.
